IPHONE CAKE!

One of my very good friends and long time coworkers, Ruben, just celebrated his 24th birthday.  If you know Ruben, then you know how much he Despises Apple products.  Another good friend &coworker of mine, also Rubens BEST friend had already put a ton of thought into his birthday and requested for me to make Rubens birthday cake almost two months in advance.  And of COURSE....we had to make it an iPhone cake.  Ruben had no idea he was finally going to get to try one of my cakes, and together, Aram and I were able to sneakily find out what his favorite kind of cake was.  Aram went even farther beyond having me make a cake of something Ruben doesn't like, but on the board under the cake had me write " U ATE IT." for him to see when he finished the cake, and also make a text message bar across the top as if the cake was receiving a text saying "From Aram, Happy Birthday Bro" (their armenian joke) I was able to incorporate other tiny details like the Google Calendar icon '24' for his birthday, and that he had '117' text messages because 1/17 is his birthday.  All of the iPhone icons were So much fun to make and when Aram showed up and surprised him with the cake Ruben couldn't have been more excited and thought the whole thing was hilarious!  Happy Happy Birthday Ruben !

POKER CAKE!

A request from one of my dear friends Isa, I got to create a Very fun Poker themed cake!  With so many different ideas and options for the design-she was awesome enough to let me decide on the entire decor!  I opted for a felt table green base, hand made playing cards/poker hand on top and TONS of stacked fondant poker chips!  The cake was colorful and bright and was so much fun to make for her.  Not to mention delicious!!

TRIPLE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION!

A recent order that is scheduled for the end of this month, turned into a double order; my coworker Jorge ordered an adorable cake for his wife, and they decided to order an additional celebration cake for her to take to the office where her, her coworker and her boss were celebrating their birthdays this month all together!  This cake was requested to have simple birthday decor, and have all the detailing be put into three fondant figurines sitting on top of the cake, one for each other the birthday personnel!  Challenge accepted Jorge's wife Claudia was kind enough to send me pictures for reference and I began sculpting!  The cake was a plain base, pretty damask decor (both feminine and masculine) and each of the figurines was adorned with bright and colorful birthday hats/birthday whistles.  One of my most challenging cakes so far I was thrilled to tackle it and cannot wait for Claudia's Eeyore themed birthday cake later this week!  Thank you Mr & Mrs Escobar for your business !!

A SWEET 'JUST BECAUSE'!

A very Sweet, 'Just Because' cake was ordered from my coworker Victor to share with his four year old son, Santiago.  His son is a HUGE Disney Cars fan, and so requested his cake to be made reflecting Lightning McQueen; his sons' favorite character.  Not the first (probably the fifth) Cars themed cake Ive done, I worked to come up with a little bit different design and opted for a taller cake, checkered flag border and my favorite rice krispy & fondant figurine on top!  Victor and Santiago loved the cake and even got to share it with his mom and sister.  Thank you Victor for your order!

SUPER-NERD BIRTHDAY BASH!

My friend Evelin FINALLLLLY turned TWENTY ONE a couple weeks ago, and celebrated with an amazing party hosted by her and her best friend Chris.  This lady put in her cake order to cater her party MONTHS in advance (thank you Evelin!) and we got to pick and choose exactly what she wanted for her party.  Anyone who knows her automatically knows JUST how much she loves Disney, Star Wars & spiderman.  To get a little bit of both for her and Chris, they selected three dozen cupcakes with all Star Wars fondant toppers, and a small personal cake decorated in the essence of Spider Man!  These fondant toppers were my second favorite I have done on cupcakes, next to her previous order of Tinkerbell and Peter Pan cupcakes with toppers!  I did a ton of research and decided to do several different toppers of all the most iconic characters from the series; I created red &blue light sabers, Yoda ears, princess Leia buns, Darth Vader masks, c3po faces, one r2d2 topper, the death star ship (thank you again Evelin for telling me what it was called-as I kept referring to it as 'that ball thingy'), Chewbacca's belt and two last cupcakes that had 'STAR' 'WARS' on them in the center of the display.  The Spiderman cake was simple but looked so great with the small detailing of his webbed face, which made up the entire cake.  Evelin loved her cake, and the entire party LOVED all the delicious Star Wars cupcakes - a complete success! Thank you Evelin & Chris for your business, and a really great time!! Happy Birthday again !

LA DODGERS FAN!

As a HUUGE Dodger fan, my friend and coworker Germaine ordered a baseball themed cake for her boyfriends birthday celebrating on New Year's Eve.  She gave me free reign with the design [which I love] and just asked me to include his name somewhere.  After getting a little more info (his favorite player, etc) I decided with a pin stripe design, the famous 'Dodgers' Logo and a little bit different than my typical 'jersey cakes' I DID make a small personalized Dodgers Jersey for the top of the cake, with his name on the back, stitching details and his favorite players number '16', complete with a miniature baseball glove, baseball and bat! I completely Loved how it turned out, as did Germaine and her boyfriend Felix!  I didn't get a chance to snap a picture of the cake before it was picked up, but Germaine was so sweet as to post it on instagram and tag me ! Thanks Germaine!

KEEP CALM & CHIVE ON!

For anyone familiar with the wildly popular website/mobile application 'The Chive', they sell an iconic green shirt spin off of the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' displaying 'Keep Calm and Chive On!" A very creative twist, it is a complete favorite of Casey's, who was celebrating his birthday last month! His girlfriend Laura requested that I make a cake in the shape of a tshirt on a girls body, with the phrase including 'Happy Birthday Casey " on it instead of 'Chive On', knowing Casey would absolutely love it!  But in order to personalize it Laura asked if I could I accepted the interesting challenge, and the turn out was pretty cool! It was a really fun cake to make, and was a lot more different than my normally requested shapes! Laura AND Casey both loved the cake, Happy Birthday Casey !

JAXSON'S JUNGLE BASH!

My Absolute, Completely Favorite Little Man- Jaxson - Just celebrated his FIRST Birthday, and I was honored when his parents came to me asking to create his special birthday cake. Jaxson, my managers son, is thee sweetest, Happiest little baby and is just too much fun to have around.  Anyone who works with me will contest that he just 'employee-surfs' as we pass him from one person to the next, all just dying to play with him-as he is having the time of his life with the BIGGEST (used to be!) toothless grin on his face.  Jaxson's wonderful mom Corrine, is madly in love with giraffes, so obviously they are Jaxson's favorite animal as well....haha.  Following their adorable Jungle theme for his birthday I was asked to really emphasize their love for giraffes! So the larger cake that everyone else got to enjoy was covered with hand cut giraffe print fondant, large bright green jungle leaves around the edges, and four different fondant jungle animals sitting on top! A hippo, elephant, snake and a lion.  Jaxson's special Smash Cake though was ALL Giraffe print, with large fondant cut outs of the number One and his name to decorate the cake.  Time consuming but completely worth it, these two cakes complimented each other so well and were a yummy addition to his special birthday celebration!
