CHIC LACE LOVE!

A long time coworker and friend of mine, Raoul, has been commenting about ordering a cake from me for a long time now.  Finally the time came where he needed a cake, for his sweet mothers birthday!  He told me to 'have fun' with the cake design, that he just did not want anything to frilly/girly, that his mom liked more of a classy look.  He also requested 'Happy Birthday JuJu' to be on top of the cake.  I wanted to stick with a black and white design, and opted to try out a new technique...LACE!  Unfortunately I have no lace tools so after reading and watching quite a few different tutorials online, I opted to make lace the hand-made route!  I started by cutting large circles, and working my way into the center of the circle creating a pattern using my fondant knife tools, and all the various sized frosting tips I have!  The work took the better portion of four hours in order to get the rhythm down and make sure all of those darn little circles cut out all the way! But the finished look was even better than I had hoped, AND I learned a new technique out of it! This is what I love SO much about what I do!  Thank you Raoul 'Rizzle' for your order!

LANA DEL REY INSPIRATION!

Miss Evelin came to me last month requesting a special little cake for her younger sister's birthday.  She explained to me how crazy her sister was about the new artist Lana Del Rey and all of her music.  Evelin asked if I would be able to incorporate that into a cake, of course!  She was amazing and found me exactly what I was looking for - a Lana Del Rey silhouette.  I was able to create a card stock stencil by hand from the picture she sent me and use it to cut out a black fondant silhouette of Lana Del Rey!  Adorned on top was a 3D Bright Red Flower and Black Sparkly piping gel 'Lana Del Rey' along the front/side of the cake just like on her Paradise Album.

A BOLD CHEVRON BIRTHDAY!

Liz is a bold character, to say the least!  Already having ordered numerous cakes for other people from me, this time she was ordering a cake for herself!  She told me the flavors, and gave me free reign of the cake design.  Knowing her personality I wanted to do something bold and really eye-catching! What better than a Chevron print cake?  Red is one of her favorite colors so I paired it with black and white, offsetting the red and white cake with a red and black bow.  Liz completely adored her cake, and what made it even better when I delivered it was her other coworkers thought I had purchased it somewhere! Happy Birthday Liz!
